12 Days to a Healthy Holiday: Day #4 – Cook at Home
The holidays are filled with parties where you won’t be in control of what you’re eating and how it is prepared. This makes it incredibly difficult to stick to your weight loss goals throughout the holiday season. There are however, ways to limit the risk of going “off script” and slipping off your routine.
Say you’re invited to five parties during the holidays. That means out of the month of December you will be eating someplace other then your own kitchen for 16% of your dinners, a pretty big number.
Consider your eating habits for the rest of the year. How often do you go out or order in for dinner? Is it three times a month? Four times? Maybe even five times?
If you’re eating out or ordering in up to five times a month on a normal schedule, you can then add those meals out to your holiday schedule and you’ll be out of your own kitchen and out of control of the preparation of the food for 33% of the time during the holiday season.
Now, you know as well as I do that no matter where you eat out, your meal is not going to be as healthy as one that you might cook at home and certainly when at a friend or family members home for a party you don’t want to not eat, so just for the month of December, cut out the restaurants and keep your eating out to just the parties that you’re attending.
Then, for the rest of the time, cook your dinner at home. I’ll help you with a couple meals that are good, easy and healthy meals to cook up so you can avoid the restaurants those other five times.
2.)Cranberry Bog Turkey Burgers – very festive
3.)Butternut Squash Mac And Cheese
These are just some of the recipes you can substitute in place of going out to eat for dinner during the holiday season. Cutting back on eating out will save you calories and help keep you on the right track for a healthy holiday!!
